My name is Louisa and I love cats and knitting.  There, I’ve said it.  My two favourite things, in one blog.

Cats and knitting have always been a big thing with me. And I know I’m not alone. A lot of knitters are into cats. Maybe because cats and yarn have similar qualities. They are both, to varying degrees, soft, fluffy, tactile, full of character, and utterly gorgeous. Whether they are completely compatible passions, is another matter entirely.  I often have to unhook a cat’s claw from my work in progress.  And is there cat hair in my knitting?  Most definitely yes.

My family is full of artistic cat lovers so there was no escape for me.  My mother taught me to knit when I was quite small.  The first thing I knitted was a scarf in garter stitch for my penguin.  He still wears it to this day.  My aunt used to spin, weave, knit and crochet the most beautiful things.  She was and still is my inspiration.  I started to make my own simple designs as a teenager, and I devoured knitting books and magazines and carried on knitting even though it was deeply unfashionable at that time.

I like making smaller items which are great for stash busting and quick to finish.  I especially like to avoid sewing, so I aim for an all-in-one knit with minimal seams.  I started with a range of cakes and cupcakes, then I took the circular base pattern and converted it into a giant wool cat basket, crossing over into extreme knitting world!  Extreme knitting is great if you are a time-poor seam-hater like me – you get a quick result with huge impact.

I also have a fine art print business, Go To Design, selling fine art giclee prints for framing, as well as a full time day job in the souvenir giftware industry – see why I love a quick knit?

I live in Sheffield, UK with my partner and three Maine Coon cats.  One of my favourite things to do to relax is to spend time in my studio working on a design, in the company of my cats.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my pages, and thanks for dropping in.

  1. Congratulations on your blog Louisa. Though I am not much of a knitter (at all, haha) I love your designs. Looking forward to see more. Will you be blogging about the furries as well? x Anna

  2. Lovely to see another UK knitter on here 🙂 I look forward to reading your blog.
I’m not generally a cat person (more of a canine fan) but if I was I’d have a Maine Coon – they’re gorgeous! You might just convert me.

    • Thanks! I love dogs too and I’m a volunteer dog-walker for The Cinnamon Trust. Just can’t have my own dog, not practical. Maine Coons are the most dog-like of cats. They drool, lick, quite like water, and follow you around. Converted? 🙂
